Initial impressions from first week of ownership
I haven't had my Expedition very long now but there are a few things that have stood out to me so far (both good and bad).
Negatives
Seat Belt Reminder Signal - The Expedition has one of the loudest and most annoying seat belt reminder sounds I have ever heard. In fact, it is loud and strange enough that my wife asked if something was wrong with the car. I will be checking the manual to see if this is defeatable or if, at the least, I can reduce the volume somehow.
Opening Doors - When exiting the car and pulling on the door handle, there is not a feeling of some mechanism being "unlatched" or even a noise of any consequence. Because of this, I have found myself pulling on the handle a second time thinking that my first pull was unsuccessful. I thought it might just be me and then I watched the first passenger get out of my car do the exact same thing.
Closing the Rear Hatch - Closing the rear hatch is a bit unsettling. The sound it makes leads you to believe that the hatch wasn't closed successfully. Having realized that the door actually is closing ok (by reopening and closing it several times and hearing the same unpleasant sound each time), now I simply don't like to hear the sound because it sounds like a cheap door closing improperly. I want to hear a solid "thunk" or something reassuring.Positives
Accessory Power Reserve - After you remove the key from the ignition, you can still utilize all of the interior amenities such as the moonrof, radio, etc. for 10 minutes.
Memory Settings and Keyless Entry - I haven't done this yet but the manual says that the remote for unlocking the car can be programmed to correspond to my seat and side mirror settings. Sounds cool...looking forward to trying that out.
Navigation - I had it figured out within a minute of playing with it (a reassuring feeling having read about BMW's iDrive and other troublesome navigation interfaces). Love the "here" and "home" buttons that will immediately tell you where you are or plot a course home with the push of a single button. I doubt any nav is perfect, and I have already noticed that what I am certain is the quickest or best route is not always chosen. However, I am also finding that the nav sometimes is teaching me better routes.
Powerfold Seats - Love it, love it, love it. I'm sure the novelty will wear off over time but I am certain that all other car companies are scrambling to do what Ford has done. This is a luxury now but will be a standard sometime in the next few years.
